Portishead

Post by colonel »

After 11 years away; during which time everyone left their partners, rumours abounded that they had gone mad and their backing band turned into Robert Plant's Strange Sensations...Portishead are back!

As usual, impossible to categorise..but not trip-hop anymore....a lot of pain and a lot of anger in what is nearest to...I kid you not..industrial metal!

Pure blind fucking fury- saw them live in Wolverhampton last Sunday night and was mindblown as they blew me away; and did the same again on Jools Holland tonight- and on Friday night as well...

With Radiohead, the most eclectic bands since the Zeppelin and the Tull first appeared..album out on 28th April called Third...buy it!

Had the volume on full blast, watching Jools Holland last night. Awesome stuff.

Having heard some of the new album tracks previously on Newsnight (of all places), I think this will be a bit of a slow burner. Some very strange tracks. I find I have to be in the right mood to digest Beth's voice as well. I can see myself getting hooked all over again though.

Oh and if you don't already have it, I recommend getting a copy of their live NYC DVD, which blows you away.

Good to see them back.
