?EPL? set to take on IPL cricket

Post by Deuce Bigolo »

Am I the only one who thinks this is one of the most overhyped styles of cricket to ever be staged

Players bought like they were properties on a game of monopoly

I feel a giant anti-climax under way

What say you gentlemen?

Seems the English & Wales cricket boards are trying to jump on board as well

I like 20/20 cricket and yet I'm a traditionalist in cricket as I am with most sports.

It's popular and above all else it is highly entertaining and after all isn't that what we're looking for?

The ECB will try to arrange their own tournament but it won't have the impact of the IPL due to the massive TV revenues on offer in India and therefore money available to players.

No you're not. I feel exactly the same.

Through a maniacal bidding process.

Bish bosh, crash, bang, wallop and it'll be all over - until next years event.

Big money, maybe big crowds - but overall meaningless.

They've been in discussions with Allen Stanford, the American businessman, who has bank rolled 20/20 in the West Indies.

Its a throw away form of the game which attracts those that want a 3/4 hour experience and no more so it will always have a place

As oneplayer said the danger of the 20/20 is that it teaches players bad habits for the longer forms of the game

All 3 forms of the game have a place if there is less cricket played
Lost count of the number of meaningless one dayers played in recent times

The public will decide in the end which survives & which dies/decreases

Hair v Pakistan at the Oval in 2006 is the biggest controversy of recent times.

One outcome was that it lead to the BBC's cricket forum being closed down.
