I don't think Noel is being racist- but mud and bling just don't mix.
And will your average hip-hop fan take their fur coats and gold to a farm in Somerset?
The two cultures do not mix at all- and that's not being racist at all: black performers have always been welcome at Glasto and wiggers with gunz are probably what people are concerned about.

Re: Hip Hop at Glastonbury
I've only ever been to Glastonbury once or twice and then just to see one band! Its a lot of money to stand in mud - but I think this may become RED-XXX.COM's team summer trip
www.indietracks.co.uk
I can't tell what the main event is The Wedding Present and others or the fact that festival goers have unlimited use of The Midlands Steam Railway!
And all for ?45 for the weekend or ?25 for a day...
Love and Kisses

Re: Hip Hop at Glastonbury
Hip hop just does'nt compliment the Glastonbury culture. Some dance music acts such as the brilliant and talented Basement Jaxx,Faithless and Chemical Brothers have been a huge hit at Glasto, but dance and hip hop are completely different genres and cultures of music.

Re: Hip Hop at Glastonbury
I love most genres of music and yeah theres good and bad hip hop so I cant argue against some people loathing it (good and bad rock too right?)
However Glastonbury and hip hop? I cant see why hip hop fans would want to wade knee deep moshing in mud....It'll only dirty up those Timberlands and heaven help us if it get in the bling -bling and the rims of their wheels...Oh no.
on another note I cant see why it wouldnt work...I guess the organisers are looking to the success of the Lollapalooza but what works in America dont necessarily work here.
At the very least I can only see Jay Z getting boo-ed off stage ...But I would be very surprised as he has done an album with Linkin Park so regardless of the nay sayers Rap and Rock are from opposite sides of the fence saying the same things from two different styles.
Besides who cares? At least he has the loving arms of Beyonce to run into. No downsides there then.

Re: Hip Hop at Glastonbury
Just celebrate Glastonbury at home, the easy way!
Take your old music centre to the bottom of the garden, turn the bass up full and the treble right down, then stand your old action man on top of it, to give that authentic view and sound.
Then, retire to the opposite end of the garden and wallow in a puddle of your own excrement for three days.
Instant Glastonbury experience at a fraction of the cost!

We have need of you again, great king.

Dear all,
I've been twice and frankley the facilities are shocking 1995 the weather was lovely so it was ok camping wise, but 1998 was a disaster with our tent being washed away when the toilets at the top of our campsite flooded and we were washed away in shite.
And its never been for people like me (ie poor) as we were camping in the middle of all these grebo kids with their own 4x4s...

Re: Hip Hop at Glastonbury
Have ANY of you actually watched the movie FADE TO BLACK??
Jay Z sold out madison square garden and the concert with a live band is fantastic.
I played at glastobury in my band days on the dance stage 3 years in a row and also toured with cyrpess hill, the prodigy, the roots to name but a few and when a hip hop artist/band play to big festival crowds there is no denying it ROCKS BIG TIME
I can see people saying a smaller hip hop artist wouldnt be good for glasto but Jay Z is huge and to add to this debate have any of you heard his callaborations with Linkin Park who are a guitar rock band??
Its very easy to put ticket sales down to a hip hop act but i think its a good idea to have something different there for a change.
Prodigy use hip hop beats and rap over the beats headlined many times at glasto
Basement Jaxx when live use an mc to rap over there music
Faithless-what does there lead man do over the music
in short glasto will sell out this year without doubt cos it always DOES!
