Re:18 free ways to download streaming

Copied from the link below

It seems like everyone these days is downloading, watching, and sharing videos from video-sharing sites like YouTube, Google Video, MetaCafe, DailyMotion, Veoh, Break, and a ton of other similar sites. Whether you want to watch the video on your iPod while working out, insert it into a PowerPoint presentation to add some spice, or simply download a video before it?s removed, it?s quite essential to know how to download, convert, and play these videos.

There are basically two ways to download videos off the Internet and that?s how I?ll split up this post: either via a web app or via a desktop application. Personally, I like the web applications better simply because you don?t have to clutter up and slow down your computer with all kinds of software!

To use a well worn cliche,a leopard never changes it spots
RP in all its has been deceptive since 1995,caused my PCs more freezes than I care to recall

Haven't seen RP associated with linux as yet

was doing a bit of research the other day and found this list of compatible software so its pretty redundant anyway

couple of other excellent pages on linux
maybe not for everyone?

test

is windows like linux?

Hmmm....how old is that list (http://www.linuxrsp.ru/win-lin-soft/table-eng.html#43)? I'm using Banshee to play my music/podcasts and it doesn't seem to be on that list. Maybe I missed it.

Real Player, if I remember right, is in the repositories, for Ubuntu, so I'm sure it's available. Not sure if it runs natively or through Wine though.

You using any distros, Deuce?

I'm just researching at the minute.Still fart assing around on windows XP to tell the truth.Got it in mind to upgrade to XP/Linux dual boot eventually
but thats a along way away

The list is most likely a little bit dated and as such not comprehensive
Not surprising given how much software is actually out there

Had a look at the Ubuntu page for compatibility
Interesting that their listing purely by manufacturuer and not category

Just rip the cd and run it off the live cd for a week. There are certain things you can't do with the live cd, but it'll give you a feel for the OS and you'll know if everything works.

It can be a little confusing using sudo commands and I'm still learning, but Ubuntu's getting better all the time, especially as they bring out a new release every 6 months.

No ports are open so no need for firewalls and I don't think there's a single virus doing the rounds at all.

The ubuntu forums are very helpful if you're ever in need of help.

The main reason I was interested was their no spyware/viruses claims

Given how pathetic current prention, detection & removal software is its got to be the way forward

Expect the big boys to try and buy them out eventually?
