Harriet Harman interviewed onRadio 4'sToday programme this morning said she was hoping that future legislation would make prostitution totally illegal in this country. Her reasons for this was she wanted to stop human trafficking. She claimed it had worked in Sweden. The proposal I would suggest does not stand up to scrutiny. Yes there are women involved in the sex trade who are exploited by criminal gangs. Equally there are such people involved in other businesses who are equally exploited by gangmasters. The majority of prostitutes work in the sex trade voluntarily. Is Ms Harman saying that they should be prevented from doing so? How would such a law be enforced?

This is yet another example of New Labour trying to push through ill thought out legislation which catches everyone, not just those it is intended to. It will end up like the hunting ban, which upset thousands yet did nothing to improve animal welfare. No doubt it will please the middle class handwringers who seemed to be the only people the political parties want to satisfy now.

The more you make something illegal the more you drive it underground and the less control you have over it meaning that even more young girls will be sold as sex slaves, if you make brothels legal you will have more control over who works in them, the trouble is for the last ten years we have had a goverment who have pushed through laws which havnt been properly thoughout or debated and in most cases resulting in making things worse rather than better !sad!

Harman was recently fingered for accepting an undeclared donation of ?5000. Her pretence of there being no misdeed was to more or less say 'It's okay because i've returned the donation'. She and others like her must have a contemptuously low opinion of the general public if she thinks that's acceptable. For me it compounds things .. i'd have respected her more if she's taken it on the chin.

Also i doubt if Harriet Harman will get much support from her fellow MPs in making the paying for sex illegal as most of them enjoy fucking rent boys, if such a law was ever passed in the U.K. it would finish the porn industry in this country as it would be illegal to pay anyone to have sex in front of a camera !idontbelieveit!
