Computer advice please. Replacement for AVG?

Just had a message come up saying my FREE AVG anti virus program will not be getting updates after 31st May and to convert to AVG version 8.

And guess what..... version 8 isn't free!!!!

So does anyone know of a good free replacement?

Now where are those jaffa cakes for Jacques..... or was it chocolate digestives he likes?

I got rid of avg a couple of months...not as great as its made out to be
very little freeware by itself thesedays is enough protection

You can either go for something like anti-vir or avast


or test out some of the security suites or just their anti-virus for a month trial as I'm currently doing...done kaspersky,eset & currently using avg

Ive got Nod 32 and its the buisness, also you could try avira anti-virus which is very good too.

Thank you for all your replys.

I downloaded AVG 8.... 5 times!!!! got to a max of 40% before the server would come up with an error message saying it was closing.

Then I read Steve R's post more carefully and tried the second download link..... which worked first time and as he said soooo much faster.

I hope AVG don't send out a message telling me the updates foe AVG 8 will stop on 31st May as well. Anyhow if they do I now have lots of other's to try.
