I was thinking the national Service to instill some discipline and direction Alice. The idiosyncrasies of being a worthy soldier at the end of it was not the point I was trying to make.

Society dictating a long sentence will never work since most of these guys see hanging out in prison as somekind of networking thing to commit bigger and better crimes when they get out...without getting caught.

Rehabilitation should be about turning these people into decent contributing members of society.

If it was just violent people who have actually killed being locked away for a long time or life then i think that is fair. You take a life then you should pay with your own life by having your freedom by way of rights taken away from you. If these people end up killing themselves...then so be it. I just dont agree with a state appointed executioner to do the job. That makes us as bad as them.
