Good evening ra!!

Well all of you have made up me mind, I have just txt the chap that asked me and it looks like we are going. I gotta admit I am really excited!!

I have never actually been on a Normandy tour,all though I worked in france for several years. I spent three months touring around Normandy so managed to visit a quite a few war graves. It was some thing that I had wanted to do all my life,but nothing could have really prepared me for just how moving it was going to be.

Also it is amazing to see the work that the War Graves Commision do,as well as the British Leigon.

It certainly is.

Thing that impressed me most was how much they are looked after by the French people, not just the staff of the War Graves Commission.

Pity so many lowlifes here don't have a similar amount of respect for the things in this country.

Hi Beeston Boy.

Thirty years ago there was an ex Canadian Air Force Lanc at Blackpool on open display. I was able to get on board.

I was at Bruntingthorpe in 1998 when they were in the early stages of working on the Vulcan that is now flying again and got on board.

I was also involved with the Manchester Museum when we cut a Shackleton in two, dragged it into the Museum and put it back together.

The War And Peace show at the hop farm Paddock Wood Kent, i have been a few times and can thoroughly recommend it the only trouble is you will need 2 days to see it all, did you not see the clip i once posted of a ride i once done at this show on an AK tank, maybe i can dig it out !happy!

At the risk of sounding like a right cheeky little gutter snipe...ya got any pics of the Lanc or the Vulcan? Have never seen inside the Vulcan at all and have only seen a little of the Lanc interior.

If you have any at hand my E-mail is in my profile. But please feel free to tell me to sod off!! I will fully understand chap.

I keep trying to find the time to go over to Bruntingthorpe to try and see the Vulcan. The nearest I have come to one is,the one on Static display near East Midlands Airport. Can't wait to see XH558 in the air. Hopefully this summer!

Hey Graham

I think it is the one in Kent we will be going to. The chap has txt me back tonight saying that there is a swing band on in the evening and wants to know if I wanna stop the night and do the second day as well. Was a little un-decided till I read your post. But now we are stopping over!! Should be an all round great weekend.

I will search through the forum archives tomorrow night and see iff I can find your tank ride clip.

If you are into history (warfare and non-warfare) then this is a GREAT weekend - Festival of History 2008.



THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of people dress up in costume from all periods in history and "live" in historical camps

As well as living in these camps they also do battle recreations - from Roman Britain right up to second world war and everything in between.

Some "battles" can have 500 or 600 people in them. In the past they have had Lancaster and Spitfire fly pasts.

For the first world war and second world they even dig "trenches" and live in them all weekend, sticking their heads up over the trenches to take pot shots at each other.

Its a pity that we didn't save some of the old ww2 battleships like the king george IV i would have liked to have seen those.
