Chavs 'n' Pikeys ? Work For Benefits

Green Dave And the Gang have come up with a wizard wheeze to stop chavs and pikeys hanging round street comers, swigging White Lightening and causing bollocks (not to mention roughing up Labour MP?s) at your expense. He?s going to make sure the fuckers earn their keep by putting ?em back to work on community projects.

Sounds like a top plan to me. What does the panel think?

Good idea in principle.

I read on Teletext that a Labour MP said this was a 'waste of money.'

I find it incredulous that an MP working for a government that is giving away ?700m in illegally claimed benefits can consider anything attempting to stop the massive tide of benefits claims a waste of money but I don't work for Labour.

I was at one time a staunch Labour voter but the current shower of shite has made me have a re-think on that front.

Captain Dibble,not all young kids out of work are chavs and pikeys. Some are middle class kids who have grown up too soft because of mummy and daddy pulling their strings and din't have a clue how to look after themselves in the real world. Seeing as this plan by the tories is aimed at 18-21 yr olds im sure you wouldn't see a problem with these harmless kids being sent to ""boot camps"" also. Or is it just chavs and pikeys you have it in for?

Considering unemployment is at some of the lowest levels in 25 years and that giving them jobs doesn't stop them hanging on corners after work/at weekends (plus puts more money in their pockets for cider and drugs) I can't see it making the slightest of differences.

Typical emotive talking from the Tories, where only the dumb will take seriously.

And the ""intensive work related programme"" that the tories are on about would involve picking up leaves. The tories would do away with any plans to train young kids that are already in place to save money.

The will probably be forced to wear a uniform with ""i am unemploed scum"" written on it while they are out picking up leaves or force losing their benefit. I can see tories having orgasms at the thought of it.

But I think the general idea is to give 'em some sense of purpose and (hopefully) to instill at least a modicum of respect in them for their own community.

Personally I'd bring back National Service - living in Germany for 20+ years, I've seen many a lairy, bolshie German yoof miraculously transformed into an affable, respectful young adult by a year's square-bashing in the German Army.

But National Service would never sell in the UK (for one thing, they'd all be up in arms about their "human rights" being "violated"), so some sort of compulsory community scheme is probably the next best thing.

In fact we have that here in the Fatherland too ("Zivildienst" = "Civilian Service"), it's offered as an alternative to the Forces for conscientious objectors and those who for those who for one reason or another can't go to the military (medical reasons etc.)

It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.
