For once, I agree with this analysis by a Tory!!! and one who's a 'life-long batchelor'. It seems the simple truth is we have to ween ourselves off the stuff, just like junkies with 'smack'; it's gonna be hard..
Price of oil.
Re: Price of oil.
'life-long batchelor' eh?
Maybe he needs to wean himself off that soup.
(Of course, if he was a life-long bachelor, then that would mean something else entirely)

Re: Price of oil.
The truth is that there is plenty of oil around, what is driving the price up are speculators betting on the future price of oil. Because of the explosion of industry in China and India, these countries will demand ever more and more oil, so speculators are stashing away millions of barrels at say $135 knowing that they'll be able to sell them on at some point at maybe $200 per barrel.

Re: Price of oil.
Yes, oil prices are rising - but that's not the problem.
The problem is the obscene amounts of tax levied on fuel not just in Britain but in most Western nations in general.
After all - when fuels costs around GBP 1.20 per litre, yet something like 70% of that amount is tax, then something's seriously fucked up.
I had to laugh about Gormless Gordon heading off to hold emergency talks with the oil barons today to discuss "what can be done to ease the problem" when HE IS the fucking problem!!
He could solve the crisis at a stroke by slashing 20p of the litre price.
Of course the green lobby would be up in arms about it - but fuck 'em. Because like it or not, the whole economy depends on oil so this is no time for such lofty principles.
But does the grasping Scots cunt have the will to do so? That would be a resounding NO.
It amazes me that revenue-hungry politicians can't seem to comprehend simple schoolboy economic principles such as: the heavier the tax burden, the less people's spending power thus the less money firms make, thus the less said firms have to invest, the less profits said firms make and the more firms go out of business - and thus ultimately the less taxes the government collects!!
Simple fucking common sense - and yet these twats can't seem to grasp it.

Yeah, t' fuck wiv 'em! That's the spirit, Eric.
'The Green Lobby' are all comparatively well off metropolitan luvvies who can afford to be fashionably green. Why should ordinary working folks have to struggle with their finances just so that metrosexual luvvies can feel that warm glow of green self-satisfaction?
However green we are in Britain won't make a halfpeneth of difference in the face of rising energy consumption in Asia. This green tax bollocks is partly a stealth tax and partly the result of head in the clouds metropolitan luvvies being detached from the realities of life and the aspirations of the rest of the populace. T? fuck wiv? ?em indeed.
The answer to global warming and rising commodity prices is quite simple ? start rolling out serious birth control programs across the world. It?s the only sure way to dampen consumption of natural resources while still living our lives to the full.

Re: Price of oil.
Not really true. There's still plenty of oil under the ground to satisfy demand - the problem is the amount producers are willing to pump out and the refining capacity. This is an artificially created shortage to allow speculators/producers to maximise their profits on the back of a scare.
Re: Price of oil.
Interestingly there should be no shortage as global oil production is currently slightly in excess of global demand, according to the BBC news tonight. No explanation as to why the law of supply and demand isn't bringing the price down.
The scots are particularly pissed off as they cant afford their own oil.

Re: Price of oil.
People are so brainwashed about what constitues being 'green' and are sold into believing 'going green' is some kind of consumer issue and not a 'lifestyle' thing - like, hey, let's buy a 'low emmisions' mini-mpv to drive the kids to the school up the road instead of getting to (shock! horror!) walk, instead of thinking 'well, there's a reason I like this nice big car and I want to keep it, so I'll commute into the town centre every day by bus' etc.
The 'green' issue is nothing more than a trasparant excuse to sell people crap new products they 'have to have' (and thus keep thy precious retail economy chugging) and to tax us more heavily than ever before, all by using guilt masquerading as 'social responsibilty'.
If green issues were genuine we'd be buying products that are built to last, to keep & repair, as opposed to stuff made to be thrown away (sorry, RECYCLED!)

They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?

Re: Price of oil.
Capitalism cannot build machinery and products to last. It needs continual spending like a vampire needs blood.
