Re: Grange Hill
I'm pretty sure you can get series 1 and 2 of Grange Hill on dvd.
I was just a wee bit too young then, I was watching Grange Hill in the mid to late 80's when they had Danny Kendall and Mr Bronson storylines.

Grange Hill was quality for at least it's first ten years, truly iconic. I have the first 8 or 9 series on dvd & vhs. Not seen any of the newer shows.
They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?

Re: Grange Hill
I always remember Gripper Stebson waiting for Roland Browning on his first day of school and taking his dinner money, classic
Re: Grange Hill
I too am of the original late '70s / early '80s Tucker / Benny / Alan / Trisha Yates / Cathy Hargreaves / Booga Benson vintage.
Forget the more well-known Gripper Stebson - next to Booga Benson, Gripper was a fucking choirboy.
Continued watching through to the mid '80s (Zammo / Roland et al).
I saw a few recent shows quite by chance and they were a pale shadow of GH's former glory - not least because the location had magically changed to an "unnamed city" (a thinly disguised Liverpool!) and the whole thing bore no resemblance whatsoever to the old GH (completely new location), although Todd Carty did apparently make a guest appearance as Tucker a few years ago, bringing his young nephew to GH which would have been interesting to see.
To all intents and purposes it was a completely different show, and on the TV formums the general consensus seems to be that GH should have been put out of its misery years ago and that the show's axing is a good 10 years overdue.
As far as DVDs go, the first 4 seasons are currently available in two Boxed sets (Series 1 /2 and Series 3 / 4).

Hmmm a bit like Brookside then! Phil Redmond's creations seem to have a habit of going totally off the boil after initially being excellent - Brookside was superb for around 10 years then descended into an unwatchable farce miles away from the gritty realistic soap that started in 1982
