I think that if Muslims came out and protested and burned effigies of Bin Laden after 9 -11,life they are so willing to do after any percieved slight against islam,re Danish cartoons etc.,it would go a long way to prevent more of their terrorist attrocities.But they didn't because most of them support him

Indeed, both 'sides' of this 'war on terror' are guilty of over-simplifying the 'good' vs 'bad' argument - both see themselves as the 'good'.
Apparantly 60-odd % of male babies born in Pakistan in 2004 were named Osama, which will give you a good indication of how they see things....
