Well Gordo won but apparently only after offering bribes & sweeteners to rebels & other parties.
Is this truly how the democratic process should work? surely if you can't win the vote with the power of your argument you lose any credability
It appears that the whole exercise has been simply one of saving (Brown's) face but with the size of the rebellion & closeness of the vote the government will be hard pressed to present this as a convincing victory

Could well be overturned in the Lords. Don't see the need to hold anyone for 28 days, let alone 42 - for any crime. With the police we're saddled with, the chances of them abusing this is quite high. If the need for this amount of time is so necessary in the UK, why isn't it the same in other countries? Very Police State like.

It will obviously be defeated/returned by the lords (what a sad day for politics that nu-labia have almost destroyed this stop gap against bad knee-jerk legislation)
I wonder if broon will use the parliment act (I think it is) to force this through when its defeated in the lords... just like b'lyer used it to force the hunting act through.
What a sorry state of affairs that this country is now/seems more oppresive and restrictive against free speach and individual rights than that of the the old USSR and nearly as bad as most islamic countries of today.
Not that the cuntservatives will be much better as theres no way they will repeal any bad legislation that gives them a position of power despite their vocalising their oposition to it while not in power... heck bet maggie wished she;d had this much power!!!!(1)

(1) although I do believe that in the long run "thaterisum" did a lot of good for this country after the abismal state of the uk in the 60's-70's with the 3 day week, strangle hold by the unions, and the winter of discontent.

I don't think anyone will be saying it was a convincing victory just that it was a victory. I also suspect it will only get mentioned IF a case rises or opposition use it at PMQ's.
The Lords will stop it and Brown will say the other place has chosen against the political will of the nation.
