New 'Coldplay' album...

Post by max_tranmere »

I bought this on Thursday, the first day of release. I've been listening to it a lot since. Anyone else bought it and what do you think of the album?

Downloaded it from iTunes the other day. Coldplay back to their very best.

Anyone hear Chris Martin flounce out of that R4 interview the other day? Pure public school hilarity.

I've heard the album and it isn't much. Tries to do something different with their usual template but barely gets halfway. One of the problems is Brian Eno's production, which is much too vacuum-sealed. Songs that sound like they should expand and breathe are too stiffled and studio dried - the title track being a prime example.

However, their real problem is you always get the impression this band are just doing exactly what highly-paid music executives and image consultants want them too, regardless of what they claim themselves. Until they really do move on, they'll always be a poor man's Radiohead. Nice sleeve, mind.

Hey

Coldplay seem to be going even further down the 'Embrace' route. All be it with a much larger and loyal fan base.

Parachutes- One of the greatest debut albums by a UK band.

A rush of blood to the head- Not bad but only sold off the back of parachutes. To be perfectly honest,I could have written it and it would have sold about the same amount of copies!!

X&Y- Awfull!! If this had been the bands first album, they would have sunk without trace. I had tickets too see them for the second time when this album was released but flogged them on hearing it.

Only heard the single off the new album.and have too admit it is a grower. By that I mean the first time I heard it,I had to switch it off. Now I can just about bear it.

Still I must admit of all the hundreds of bands I have seen, they are the only one who have tempted me to an arena. And they still make my top ten of live gigs. So if you have not seen them live, you might wanna pop along.

Cheers

BB

I've just watched them live on the repeat of the Jonathan Ross show. It's good to see a band that are that huge still doing TV shows. Often bands that become very famous and unbelieveably rich start to fall apart after 3 albums but these guys are still recording, doing TV and radio stuff and about to do a huge tour. Apparantly the bass player in Coldplay is the 4th richest person in Britain under the age of 30 (he's 29). The other three are equally as rich but are 30 or 31 years old. Just gives you an idea of how many records and tickets they've sold in recent years.

Can't help but think their music is just well produced generic crap. Posh boys from public school who think they're the next Pink Floyd.
