This is VERY common.

I went into Tesco yesterday and they had Pineapples "half price" from ?1.99 reduced to 99p so I bought two.

Today I walked past a local greengrocers and their pineapples were 69p.

Supermarkets make a big fuss about what they have got on offer, but they charge high for things like fruit and vegatables so make it up on that.

I think we are all actually being ripped off by these large supermarkets.

We go in there ready to buy half a dozen things and come out with a trolly full costing ?80.

Trouble is we have little option, most of the "grocers" have gone (although we still have some greengrocers and butchers)

One of the reasons that, even though I shop in supermarkets, I still give custom to small, local shops. Once Tesco et al have wiped out the opposition, they will be able to charge what they like. The corner shop, like the local post office, needs to be kept going or one day, when we need it, it won't be there.

Actually I don't own a corner shop... however I agree with your sentiments. !wink!

I'm fortunate that I live in an area where there are a few farm shops and a farmer's market not too far away. My local high street still has a green grocer, a fish monger and several butchers (one with a game licence), and while most people use the two (yes, TWO!!!) Tescos in the town, there are enough of us using the small independent specialist shops to keep them in steady business.

But that was only 65p a few months back - so they're ripping you off as well, seeing it probably only costs about 15p to make.

The cost of some types of wheat has risen by anything between 25% to 40% with some countries setting export restrictions (Russia, Kazakhstan, Argentina and China to name but four) to try and combat inflation within their borders. Severe weather in some other areas has seen an almost total failure of the crop which has resulted in severe shortages worldwide.

Most products made with wheat (braed and pasta for example) have increased commensurately... of course those of you who read serious newspapers instead of the red tops might already know this!

Just got back from Tescos right now, and got done 78p for my lettuce.
I have been on those pineapples though. and the Galia melons thought they were very nice for a quid.

I must say, last week I bought a massive lump of reduced beef. for ?2.49 I thought i would take the risk if it was shit I could always give it to the dogs. So I roasted it yesterday(not spit) and it was delicious.

Oh Jesus what's happening to me.?I've gone from porn to discussing my shopping list.
