Anyone else noticed the latest trend? Clubs hired, entertainment hired, stretch limos hired . . . . for children leaving primary to go to secondary school. What were once end of term discos at secondaries have turned into US-style "proms" for which the parents have to pay for their son's tux or their daughter's ballgown.
I wonder how long it'll be before the following conversation turns out to be true:
"How's your youngest, Mrs Giles?"
"Oh, Jocasta is doing very well---on her gap year in Malyasia. Well, she needed time out after kindergarten to 'find herself' before beginning primary school."
