Adult channels to fight encryption

Post by JamesW »

Today I bumped into an old friend of mine who happens to work for Sky. He told me the babechannels which Ofcom think should be encrypted actually have no intention of becoming encrypted and will fight to remian as they are.

Their argument is that once they are encrypted they rely on people registering with them and fear that not many people would actually bother and their call revenues would plummet as a result, maybe by 90%.

90% might be considered an exaggeration, but that's what they are telling Ofcom anyway, that their revenues will be down by that much, meaning loss of jobs, loss of income for the phone companies also, and probable closure of the channels.

Besides there is also the fact that no other country in Europe forces adult chat channels to be encrypted, so it's therefore a repressive measure to carry it out in this country only, and means a possible appeal by the channels to the European Court of Human Rights.

In europe a lot of the phone channels have already closed...they started there several years before they came to the UK...and the shows were a lot harder, nude, toys etc...
I think encryption is the way to go..especially if registration is cheap or even free..
Plus from what nearly everyone in other threads wants is for the shows can go a lot harder than they are now...
But they don't want to give up the easy money they get now,but hopefully Ofcom will make them deliever a proper service.....

There are countless numbers of unencrypted phone sex channels on the Hotbird satellite - new ones appear all the time. Most operate out of Italy or Turkey, but recently they have had a crackdown on what the girls can get away with - a few had started showing hardcore on screens in the background. Even after the clean-up it's still stronger than anything you'd get on a pay channel in the UK, but basically rip-off rubbish.

What the girls are doing is great But saying that if i had to be honest i'd rather see them fully nude doing the same thing..

No hardcore etc just full nude

Don?t you people know that naked women on your TV causes gun and knife crime. If they encrypt the shows then where all safe. In all seriousness I think it?s a good idea because although I watch some of the shows I find it completely sickening how they run business and tease you into joining ridicules priced sites with no content. .

Another problem with encrpytion is that none of the channels can do it unless Sky co-operate and allow them to have encryption and Sky aren't keen on doing this. If Ofcom say either encrypt or stop broadcasting it's quite possible Sky would refuse to let them encrypt and then the channels would have no other option but to close down.

It's unclear if Ofcom have any way of forcing Sky to allow others to use their encryption technology. As it is, Sky are phasing out encryption for channels they don't own themselves.

Then there's the question of other platforms. Even if Sky co-operate that's only one of the available platforms. Do the other platforms where these channels are available have encryption faciities?

They're starting to invest more in their 3G type services....but the shows are still terrible....they can drag their heels for years,I think your right Sky,rather than OFCOM probably is the company that can make them improve their service...but will they????

Sky do not want to have any adult channels getting better, for the simple reason that these channels are competition to Sky's own adult channels (channels 938 - 944).

Sky don't see why they should do anything to help their competition.
