Question for any ardent tennis fans among us:

Are the Williams Sistas always (possibly deliberately?) seeded so that they can't meet each other until the final of a Grand Slam?

I don't follow tennis religiously so I may have missed something, but it always seems that way to me.

I don't recall them meeting in the semis or quarters or in the earlier rounds in recent years.

Both built like brick shithouses though - especially Serena. She makes Amelie Mauresmo look slender and glamorous.

The answer to your question is no.

The other Grand Slams apart from Wimbledon all seed according to the ATP computer world rankings. Wimbledon is different and has its own ranking system, but it still depends on maths and not on anyone's judgement or opinion.

So the Williams sisters are seeded by the relevant maths in every case, just like anyone else.

Tennis has to be the most boring sport going - same few winning everything for years on end. Golf and F1 are pretty much as bad.

Form guide:

Serena leads 8-7 overall, but Venus won the first 4 meetings, so since then Serena's record is 8-3. On the other hand after a spell in which she was 1-7 down against Serena, Venus leads 2-1 if you count only the last 3 meetings.

In Grand Slam meetings only, Serena leads 5-4.

7 of their 15 career meetings have been in Finals. Serena leads 5-2 in finals.

Counting Grand Slam finals only, Serena leads 5-1.

In Wimbledon meetings only, Serena leads 2-1.

In Wimbledon finals, Serena leads 2-0.

As for whose turn it is, in Grand Slam meetings the sequence goes like this:

Venus won the first 3
Serena won the next 5
Venus won the next 1

The last meeting was in 2005, so this current final will be their first Grand Slam meeting for 3 years.

(They did however meet earlier this year in a semi-final in India, the first time they had met in any tournament since 2005. Serena won in 3 sets, after a tie break in the 3rd set).

Eric, I dont believe thier is any deliberate seeding, the young blond russian babes have finally crashed and burnt, and the two Williams sisters are in the final by merit, they are both outstanding players and athletes.
Venus for the title, I hope she gets her tits out at the cup presentation.
