I just got back from The Czech Republic where I discovered the age of consent is to be lowered to 14!!!!!! What the hell is going on there???



This is not a good idea at all. In fact there is going to be a lot more loss of inncoence at a much earlier age. What kind of effect is this going to have on the future generations?

Personally the UK beats the euros handsdown for teenage pregnancies. Shame we cant do it in football eh?

Already lower in other countries (13 in Spain, 14 germany, 15 France) without problems it seems.

Did you notice the law that came into force this month can now prosecute you for something that is an offence here, but not in the country you did it? So you can legally have sex with a 14 year old girl in Spain, but be prosecuted for it on your return to Britain.

Nope, if its legal there, but illegal here, you can be charged with committing an offence. Originally designed to stop child sex tourism in Thailand and the like*, its a laudable act in essence, but like all these things, they will quickly start targeting the 'easy nicks' to rack up some good statistics.


* I know child sex isn't legal over there, but its seldom caught and punished.

I suppose there are laws that have borders and laws that are expected to be abided by the citizen. As a British citizen in a foreign country, you're still judged under British law for your actions, - at least for certain things.

I don't know how it works technically, just that we now have a law that can see you imprisoned in the UK for doing something that was perfectly legal to do in the country you were in at the time you did it.
