Sir Kylie Minogue - OBE

Post by Deano! »

I know she cant sing, and she's old and she's rubbish etc, but I am so glad you folk gave Kylie a Victoria Cross.

In 1989 a local FM station here in Perth boasted that there would be no more Kylie songs played. This was because they only dealt with 'serious' music. So what was the next track they played after making that announcement? BROS!

They talk about 'star quality' to explain why some people are so popular and she seems to have it in spades. Compared with some other female stars, she's managed to keep herself nice and I really love her for that. And she had a butt you could play like bongo drums.

Only military personnel can get the Victoria Cross, and that's nothing to do with knighthoods either.

Mojo - I was deliberately being silly. Kylie already has a VC from her service in the First World War (She shot Hitler).

Point of pedantry: Civilians serving under military authority are eligible for the VC also (not sure though if any such awards have ever been made). The civilian equivalent of the VC is the GC (George Cross).

As far as Kylie is concerned, well the whole "honours" system is a joke really.

Every year it seems to me that they're desperately scratching around to find "celebrities" to award these things to.

Along the lines of:

"Who could we gve an award to this year?"

"Well (so-and-so) has never had one".

"Ok then, (s)he'll do - but what for?"

"Oh - say it's 'services to (fill in blank)' "

And if there's a shortage of candidates, they just give a knighthood to someone who previously got a lesser award, like Parky or Roger Moore for example.

The whole thing's become so devalued now that it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see the likes of Jordan ("services to lad mags") and that waste of space she's married to being in line for one before too long.

Kylie's mother is Welsh (born and raised there). Her dad's side has French ancestory I think. So Kyle's is a Brit in a sense, her mum is anyway.

And her mum looked remarkably like Kylie when she was a young-un. Mrs Minogue did a bit of modeling back in the sixties.
