Adult channel fined ?18k for unprotected 'sex'

The operator of free-to-air channel Blue Kiss TV has been fined ?17,500 for broadcasting what Ofcom terms "adult sex" without PIN protection.

Broadcasters may only show explicit sexual content if it is encrypted and protected by a PIN or other system to stop children watching.

A viewer alerted the regulator that on the night of May 27 Blue Kiss TV, which is owned by Square 1 Management Limited and formerly titled Smile TV, was showing very explicit material. The "babe" channel features presenters chatting and urging viewers to phone premium rate lines to "chat".

Ofcom reviewed the coverage and found a presenter's actions had been "so explicit and prolonged, particularly the visual images, that it was 'adult sex' material". As well as being too explicit for an unencrypted channel, the material broke rules on standards and offensiveness, the regulator said.

Ofcom, which has warned operators of FTA adult chat channels on several occasions in the past, decided the size of its fine should act as a deterrent to the operator and others.

Square 1 Management argued "the style of the programme was entirely appropriate in context and, whilst mildly erotic, was substantially 'milder' in nature than the type of content that appears regularly on pay per view/subscription channels".

The company later conceded it had breached the Broadcasting Code and provided a signed statement from the presenter who was on screen at the time, who had since resigned, taking personal responsibility.


Well the way i see it why dont u all go encrypted that way you can show what the hell u want, thats how it should be anyhowe then only adults can watch and u have the pin.

I'd love to know explicit sexual content? i've been watching & i saw Fuck all! i even ordered 936 a few nites ago to see how explicit it was but all i saw was Tits & ass No explicit sexual content at all...

Why go encrypted/pin protected as it's just the same as what they are doing!! As i said i Ordered 936 & it's boring... At lest with baywatch you get a thrill out of watching it.

What gets me is: Why dont these grassing punters keep their fackin' norf and soufs shut.

i don't get either johnny+vb, i've been watching that channel for ages and haven't seen sex on there if anything they cover up all of the time. I would love to know what ofcom saw, because i haven't seen sod all on there. As for pin protecting the channels its waste of time as the content won't get any harder. About two years ago or so channel 936 used have hardcore sex on there as i've seen it on there, they did everything on there and then for the past year now its got all tame you don't see anything because they put the camera in a certain angle so you don't see anything and for the most part the girls are just chatting away about what they did that day. I have a copy of the shows on there when it was hardcore and a show of how it is now and theres such a big difference you wouldn't believe i would never pay for anything from that show again, its not even live any more lol. As for seeing hardcore content when if it gets pin protected won't change a thing guys.
