The announcement that there is a new Sherlock Holmes film being made, directed by Guy Ritchie who (much as I like Lock Stock and Snatch) is a director likely to stamp all over the source material.
As if that isn't enough, comes the further announcement that Conan Doyles's detective is to be played by Robert Downey Jr.
Words fail me.

Actually he is an Upper class wanker...but I bet you wouldn't dare tell him that!! I think I am right in saying he holds a couple of Black belts.
As for his films...
I must admit the only two i have seen are Lock stock and Snatch. Lock stock is fun and well made. Where as Snatch is fecking fantastic!! imho of course.
Can't say I am very excited about him making a Sherlock homles fim though. A John Holmes film...now thats another story!!
Cheers

If we're going to have comedians playing Holmes and Watson how about Reeves and Mortimer?
Who am I? A paying customer, nothing more

Hey I quite like Guy Ritchie. I was spared the movie he made with his wife. The word up on that was so bad I had to take notice.
I just wished he did the remake of The Italian Job instead of the overcommercialised style in the way it was produced.
I even liked Revolver.
So what if he is upper class? It seems he likes hanging out with the lower classs and is even nice enough to give them employment.
Hes had his fair share of misses but then, who hasnt?
It doesnt make him any less talented. If you knew the pitfalls of producing mainstream when you are against accountants who feel you are overspending and slash pages from the script to economise you might get some understanding why some films turn out less than they were expected.
Sometimes its not all down to the director.
