Hi guys
I'm with BT broadband and it's gone real slow.
Just checked it with speedtest.net...the download speed is 96kbps!
Should be anything up to 8mbps..but the most i've ever actually got is just over 1Mb.
Can anyone please suggest something? I can't even watch vids, it's that slow.
I use ccleaner and try and keep it as clean as poss.

Have you downloaded a lot recently? They have a "fair usage policy", meaning they can limit your speed if they feel you have been downloading an excessive amount. Should speed back up in a few days if thats the case.

My first port of call would be to check to see if there a fault on your line, phone BT up and ask for a line test then you can eliminate that. How are u connected to the PC is it cable or wifi.

Contact BT it seems highly likely that your bRAS profile is limiting you to slow speed throughput. Low sync speeds are normally a result of lowSNR problems.
A BT engineer needs to check your lines stats. If that checks out as ok then check your equipment and cables. While he is there get him to fit a NTE5 adsl filtered faceplate - trust me it's worth it.

Firstly, I live away from home, so only use it every other weekend when i come back..so i don't think it's to do with me downloading too much.
I'm using an ethernet cable.
It actually seems to be working ok now for some strange reason!
(Just did another speed test..1.2Mb)
If it was a fault on the line, wouldn't the problem always be there??

If you read the BT page is very likely its them.The more popular(generally the cheapest) the package you sign up for the more likelyhood that in peak times your speed will plummett,thats my experience anyway.

The download speeds you get on BT Broadband will vary depending on the volume of traffic being carried at the time you are logged on. If a large number of people are sharing the available bandwidth with you, the contention ratio (or ratio to which the available bandwidth is shared between users) is higher and your connection will be slower. Less traffic means lower contention ratios and faster network speeds.
