Been wondering who the fuck 'LOL' is for the past twelve months. Now I know I feel an earth shattering sense of anti-climax. What a crap acronym. How incredibly uninteresting and unamusing! I feel quite peeved. 'LOL' is certainly not the sort of acronym Officer Dibble would ever consider using, it's so stupendously wishy-washy.

I quite agree: to be of lasting utility, an acronym should be both apposite, and witty or informative: MAD, for example, sums it all up very well.
Don't ask me why, but my favourite is ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). But then I don't get out much.......
