PC World - what a joke!

Post by JonnyHungwell »

Went in today to have a look round, seeing they've just refurbished the store. Then I discovered where they're getting the money from:

Belkin Power Cable - the sort that comes with any PC - ?29.99
Belkin USB Cable - ?14.99

What a joke.

If I'd known old power cables could be sold for ?29.99 I'd have kept a few - we used to throw loads of them in the bin where I once worked.

Went into the Home Bargains Shop and they were selling a pack of two Belkin USB cables for ?1.99.

You get the occasional bargain at PC World, but they make up for it by trying to rip-off unsuspecting customers for cables, plugs etc. Maybe a power lead is worth ?6, but ?29.99 really is taking the piss :)

Fuckin' home bargains is bril' , best shop goin' , although if you see something you like and it's dirt cheap , you need to buy it by the pallet load before they sell out . JJ .

I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole (nor Maplins) - get most of my PC stuff online from eBuyer.

Is it any wonder that the monkey's confused?

I was in PC World a few years ago when they had an offer on for a printer at about ?30.

An elderly couple bought one and were in front of me in the queue.

The guy on the till said they would need a USB cable (another ?12.99).....

then he said they would need some spare ink (another ?30).....

then he talked them into buying the insuraance cover for the printer (over ?10 I think)..

He then said that would be about ?90 in total.

They stood there wondering why their ?30 printer was costing them ?90.

I suggested that perhaps paying ?10 insurance on a ?30 printer was a waste of money....and the guy on the till glared at me.

I moved onto another till so never fond out the final result.

They're all into this insurance lark. Argos wanted to sell me ?2.99 insurance on a product that cost ?11.49. There is point in it really.

I purchased a Samsung TV a year ago from Dixons online and the guantee has just expired. I've had three letters trying to sell me an extended insurance backed 3 year guarantee for ?130, probably not worth the paper it's written on.

At the same time I bought a new fridge/freezer for under ?200 from ASDA - now Hotpoint want to sell me cover for ?5 a month. So in 3 yeard I'd pay them the cost of the appliance again.

I would never buy any product insurance, I'd rather kust buy a new one when it breaks. It's swings and roundabouts - some things break after a year or so, but other things keep going for 15 years.

Yeah just ask Garry Glitter eh??!wink!

PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

ive made friends with my local PC world staff. im in and out there so often it pays to be paly with them.

that way when i go in they dont try and con me, sometimes i get a 10% discount and i get slightly pref treatment when my pc breaks.

i do this in any place i shop regularly. i chat up the woman at the toby carvery and i get more meat.

i might not get anything out of it at the end of the day but more often than not its pays to be nice to these people.
