What would be wrong with Martial Law, should society break down? It would be preferable to no law and is the only option. A year ago most people would have said Martial Law was unthinkable in a western democracy, but after the events of the last few months, it is a distinct possibility in some countries, the UK included. There's no point worrying about it, because what will be will be, and there is nothing we can do about it - just blame in on the bankers, the hedgefund managers and the greedy Arabs for precipitating the whole thing.

We're sleep-running into a police state as it is, so a bit of Martial Law wouldn't change much.

We have need of you again, great king.

Just what events over the past few months could possibly justify the imposition of martial law in the UK? We got through two world wars last century without it, albeit with some rather stringent temporary legislation at the time. We must have been a lot more resilient and less prone to panic back then.
