Anyone have American Civil War Trading Cards at school ? They came with bubble gum and showed nasty pictures of soldiers impaled on stakes etc.

Without doubt the most gruesome and violent material I saw as a kid. They were great, along with the Martian invasion ones on which Tim Burton based 'Mars Attacks'. Wish I'd kept them all.

Slightly before my time.
They wouldn't get away with it these days though, the paragons of political correctness would have none of it ("it's glorifying violence" etc. etc.).
Questions would be asked in the House, the Tabloids would be blaming murders on them ("Did Cards Drive Teen To Kill?"), and on the strength of the inevitable hysteria, the government would probably ban 'em.
