Army bullets cost even more !

I didn't know...... but 90% of the british armed forces bullets are made in Europe, Germany and Austria.....and now with the pound falling against the euro the average price per bullet is ?1.42 !!

Also with the recession biting worldwide, the price councils can get for their recycled rubbish has fallen dramatically - because nobody wants it. It's now becoming cheaper to just bury it in the ground again. The Greens are starting to have hissing fits at the thought that some councils may actually consider this.

This is bad news. I thought most of the army's small arms ammunition was made at Radway Green in Cheshire. If a round is really costing ?1.42 we are being ripped off yet again, the fair price would be in the region of 30p.

The forces don't use much 9mm these days, it is only used in pistols now, and they are rarely used. The bulk of small arms ammunition is 7.62 mm and 5.56 mm, and I'm pretty sure that most of that is made at Radway Green. As I said, if they are paying more than 20 to 30 pence per round they are being raped.

But with the amount of 'officialdom' thats bound to go on with this sort of thing, its highly likely that they're paying well over the odds.

The recent 'wheelie bin in a stream' case being a good example of officialdom totally outweighing common sense.

I remember reading a couple of years ago that the RAF had a stock of fuel tanks for a certain type of aircraft (the jettisonable type of thing) which, under current usage, would last 460 years!

The SA80 and LSW use 5.56.

GPMG uses 7.62.

Browning uses 9mm as does the SMG

I would guess they are the rounds used most.

I would hope the British forces are paying pennies, not pounds!

You are right about 9mm. The Uzi and MP5 both use that round. Both heavily used by the Israeli's.
