Yes, but the reality is most teachers spend half every weekend marking work, half their holidays marking and planning classes & a good deal of wasting time for pointless OFSTED inspections and the like. Plus of course the risk of accusations of wrong-doing that could have no reality whatsoever - it's not a job I'd thank you for...

They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?

Not the teacher I used to date, and she was a good teacher, and although she did some home work, it was nowhere near the amount the usual sob story we hear trotted out.

We have need of you again, great king.

I've dated a teacher. Marking and preparation was over half of what we call free time- and taking into account cooking, cleaning, washing and ironing; her total free time was thus:
TERMTIME:
Friday night
Saturdays
Sundays till tea
'HOLIDAYS':
All of Christmas
Long weekend non-summer half terms
Long weekend Easter
All of Whit week
Three weeks of the 'six weeks' holidays.
Her school year started on the second Monday of August. And, yes, this was an English school.

A close friend is a teacher.
Several years ago he enjoyed his job.
He is now exasperated by the system of inspections, continual changes in curriculum etc.
Since September he is only working half-time and will take early retirement next July and it can not come soon enough.
Hence cash is tight this year and by starting taking his pension I think 7 years years earlier it will be significantly reduced but he has simply had enough and would rather manage on a more modest income.
