Agreed - it is an aural atrocity.

All they have done with the Soft Cell 'accompaniment' is lower it by a semitone (half-step - US), then place the two electronic 'toots' one semiquaver before the fourth beat of every bar. Even the timbre of those toots is virtually identical to the Soft Cell recording.

At least the Soft Cell writer/arranger had the presence of mind to break up the monotony of the toots, by placing them on different beats throughout the song and by altering their rhythm here and there.

The S.O.S. thing not only clearly plagiarises but, by comparison, seems to have been thrown together by people with no talent for this sort of endeavour.

I managed to listen to only 15 seconds of that heap of shit. Soft Cell's Tainted Love was certainly the most definitive, if not the best song of the 80's and should definitely not be tampered with. The 9-minute version from the 12" single is sublime.

A huge global hit which I always rather liked, and she went on to be one of the better modern pop acts, re: Shut Up And Drive, Disturbia and of course the ubiquitous Umbrella (you should know this one).

You guys are just old.

I dont care too much for Rihannas music but she does have talent. Her music sells by the bucketloads and she has loads of fans and I tell you what...She looks waaaaay better than Marc Almond.

Im not too keen on musical violations of old classics but this is certainly not the worst song ever ever ever by a long shot.

I can think of three already: Orvilles Song..(if you dont know it you dont ever want to). The Birdy Song and Oh Superman by Black Lace (that song still haunts me) should be in the top 10 of most awful songs in the world surely.
