Well that kind of defamation of the dead I find wholly acceptable, as it literally is a de-famation, a questioning of the foundation of the fame. But it is indeed insensitive to apply this to the very recently deceased.

Having said this, I would be well-inclined to tolerate an instantaneous critical word or two should Robert Mugabe suddenly perish.

Danger Man was one of the first programmes I can remember really looking forward to watching - and if you missed one you probably had to wait two years for the repeat. Can't say modern TV has anything I would feel bad about missing.
