Cheap cigarette sellers are being nicked !!

At a cetain location in London there was man with a market stall which had certain things on it, but his main business was not to sell the stuff on display. It was all a cover. Behind his stall, in a secluded area, were numerous cases full of cheap duty-free fags. He sold packs of 20, or any brand, for ?3.00 each. That's half-price. Me, and hundreds of other people, used to buy our smokes there. He was so popular that there was always a queue when you would go.

Anyway, he recently got raided by a posse of Police and word has it he might be going to jail for a few months! I think that is harsh. It is being said that the blind-eye that was being turned to people who did this is coming to an end and that under-the-counter fag sellers are now be nicked everywhere! If you are doing this, beware! I'm now either gonna have to spend twice as much in the shops - or travel to the Kent coast, become a ?1.00 foot passenger to France, stock up on thousands of fags, then come home in a day! Lol. Either way the days of cheap easy ciggy's seems to be over.

If not would he or you and the hundreds behind you expect to receive any medical treatment for anything related to smoking?

If he or you and the hundreds behind you did pay tax on the fags would you expect your treatment to be in a ratio related to the taxation others have paid?

Look on the brightside, if he does get sent down he'll be able to continue his trade inside, and diversify into Class As and Bs too.

Andy, you are right that we were avoiding paying tax, but on the question of whether someone should be able to get NHS care for smoking related issues if they smoke but avoid paying tax on the fags, what about people who get all their cigarettes legitimately through travelling to the Continent to buy them? Should they get no NHS care for smoking related matters? That is a lot of people.

Jonone, I doubt he would diversify to A's and B's. Lol. I really think jail is over the top for what he has done. As everything now is evidence-based, the Police must have undercover film of him selling cigarettes on many occasions. They must have been building up their case against him over a long period of time.

Andy, you can't have a go at the 'little people' evading tax when businesses and corporations do exactly the same thing. Arguably it's bending laws rather than breaking them, but why else are expressions like 'tax write-offs' now understood by everyone ? It's no longer a secret language or an obscure practice.

Remember Andy, these behaviours tend to filter down rather than travel in the opposite direction.

Those who bought the fags abroad for themselves are entitled to do so.

As far as NHS treatment goes for smoking related matters I think if it's persistent and the smoker knowingly attributes to their own poor heath, in terms of being told to stop smoking and they are given the support if needed to quit but they continue to do it, then I think there is good reason for them to be charged for doing it.

Yes it's a lot of people but in turn it would be a lot of money saved.

These were almost certainly not duty free fags.

They were probably cheap copies of genuine brands, made in some dodgy factory in the middle of nowhere, and full of all sorts of illegal and dangerous drugs.

You were not just evading tax, but probably killing yourself, or making yourself very ill, from the material inside these cigarettes.

Mcfister, why is your roll-call of cheats and scroungers composed of people who you believe to be your social inferiors ?
