I didnt know judges cared enough to let you off the hook because it would jeopardise your new job even though what htis guy did risked peoples lives on a motorway.

Gotta be more to that for sure, he was only 20, so what! If you or I had done a handbrake turn on the M25, then punched a copper repeatadly, we would be locked up, and probably given an 'accidental kicking' in the process, saying he was going to work in Ireland....WTF! he must be a young member of the masons, or his dad the chief constable....unbelievable!

It is very, very surprising ! The judge didn't want to set the guy up to fail with regard to a community punishment - given the repeated punches to the police officer's face and the previous this would still appear lenient - but unless he's paying the ?1,800 fine in full there's a fair chance he'll default on repayments.

I don't advocate sending people down willy-nilly but this would have been justified in my view and it's very inconsistent. I wonder what job in Ireland is so important that this individual must fill it ? Singlehandedly saving the Gaelic tiger economy perhaps ?

Yo Liz, given Im a darker hue than you and I gave an officer a few thumps you can bet your arse they would be having the ghetto birds (helicopters)and cops in full riot gear and the armed patrol units onto me by the dozen with a soap in the towel beating waiting for me before being processed for bail.
