Shearer to be Newcastle boss

Until the end of the season- and with Mike Ashley paying him a small fortune to boot, I am sure.

And no- this is no April Fool. Though it might turn out to be for Ashley.

Good move really, Shearer won't get blamed for the relegation, then he'll have a relatively easy season in the championship to find his feet. If he's sucessful, that'll be just fine, if he fails, then at least 'the Shearer thing' will be out of the way, allowing decent managers to consider the job once again.

This is a move that is sure to delight the fans but also I believe consigned them to be playing in the championshiop next year. Why would you throw a rookie boss who has NO experience whatsoever into the battle that Newcastle find themselves in ... only in Geordieland.

Come on check the date. No doubt the press launch will be Shearer walking across the Tyne carrying the Angel of the North under one arm and a pink elephant under the other.

Well its another Ashley move that, like his appointment of Keegan, says "I've given you what you want, now get off my back", hoping for a window of relative calm in which he can offload the club.
