Phil Spector lost the plot years ago, he has been (in my opinion) mentaly unstable for decades. Fame, adulation, money and delusions of granduer all contributed to his Mental state. His "wall of Sound" being grossly overhyped, there were many record producers with distinct sounds, Richard Carpenter for instance had a fetish for overdubbing everything, and then again twice over, even good old Roy Wood was particularly fond of this process, it has been around for years, Spector lost the plot years ago, many artist wouldn't work with him, even though thier career's may have been advanced through it.
