My God, you're serious, aren't you?

Yes, I'm well acquainted with the history.
My point was that the betrothal was initially very unpopular with
the public and, as you say, it was only Mountbatten's string-pulling
and the fact that it was apparently a real love-match that prevented
it being scuppered.

Reggie, he is also 87 years old and most people retire more than 20 years, often more than 30 years, before that. A lot of people in white-collar positions retire at 55 nowadays and then hang around the golf course, tend to their garden, or watch daytime TV from then on. I can not think of many other people as old as him who work as hard as he does. And also, as someone said, he had a naval career when he was younger so he knows about working hard in an official postion: early starts, full days, and responsibilty. He would have carried that on until normal retirement age if he hadn't have become consort to the Queen. He was hardly a loafer and, like I say, should be commended for working this hard this late in life. How many other 87 year olds have you heard of with a schedule like his? He will literally be working until, and on, the day he dies.

Lol. Max's done you over there, Keith.

Make your mind up. On one side you're saying he's an idle cunt and on the other your saying he should have retired years ago. Which is it?

Calling someone 'as-thick-as-two-planks' and 'embarrassing' is all well and good as long as you don't go ahead and make a fool of yourself 2 posts later.

As Max says, he was in the Royal Navy until '52 and at the moment been over retirement age for the last 22 years. Just those two facts have made a mockery of the whole point you were trying to make. You failed.

The day Max raped Rasputin will go on and become part of OT folklore. !laugh!

That's the thing about Royal positions, you can't retire as such. You also have no choice but to take the 'job'. I suppose Phillip could not have married Elizabeth, but once they were together, as she was in line to the throne, she became Queen whether she wanted it or not and he became her consort. It's worth remembering that the Queen's father worked himself into a premature grave by being King so when she took the position she was doing something that had killed her father but she had no choice. You say Phillip would be sacked from any ordinary job, well no one else would be doing a job at his age, they would have reitred long long ago. If he lives to be 95 he will be still working on his 95th birthday.

Do at least try not to be a cunt. Phil the Greek was on a battleship at the Battle of Cape Matapan. Remind me what you did in the war?
