The problem is a lack of leadership isn't it ? An organization which doesn't have clear values which are exemplified and 'lived' by the people at the top. The rank and file are being mismanaged, but more importantly they're not being led. If they were there would be much greater clarity about what is expected in terms of behaviour, and it's somewhat less likely that your friend would feel hateful towards the people he serves.
Leadership is a tough, tough gig though which is why many people avoid the challenges, neglect their leadership responsibilities, and cherry pick the bits of the managerial role which make them look and feel successful. In the meantime everyone else is short changed.
G20 death a policemans view
Re: G20 death a policemans view
It's not in their job description but up to a point it goes with the territory. Their training should address ways of rationalising and coping with the way the job makes them feel from time-to-time, and they have the 'esprit de corps' and support of one another. However if there is an organizational culture which is accepting of a corrosive negativity about some of the people with whom the police routinely deal, then demoralisation is inevitable. I believe, as i've stated elsewhere, that this is a leadership issue.

Your mate gets paid very well and unless he fucks up badly will have a job for years yet and a fat pension at the end.He should stop bleating and accept his colleagues brought disgrace on the force as whole. There's plenty of people who want his job so if he hates it that much he should walk.....bet he won't though!

I totally agree so now we know where to lay the blame, Gordon Brown has fucked up our economy and so wanted this G20 meeting to go in his favour to save his own skin that his orders were filtered down to the police to stand no nonsense at any cost, Gordon Brown the son of a lay preacher he preaches god but practices the rules of the devil why do you think he employs numbskulls into his camp, i tell you why so they can easily be dismissed when things go wrong and Gordon who pulls the strings stands aside and says i knew nothing about it !rant!

Graham
The thing to remember about the violent protesters is that they actually want confrontation.
Unfortunately those just wishing to protest (the peaceful ones) are often knocked out of the way by the thugs so that they can get to the 'front line' and have a go at the authorities.
The tactics used are used every week at football grounds were supporters are held back, penned in and even forced marched to coaches, trains etc.
I've lost count of the number of times I've been treated like a thug just because of thugs around me and while that treatment of me probably is other the top I would rather have that reaction than see the thugs around me have the fun that they are intent on having.

Re: G20 death a policemans view
I think BGAFD is the worst place that you could have posted this.
?Thatchers private army, New World Order, destroying coal mining communities, had to do community service after was caught selling hardcore pre 2000, fitting up and bribing forum royalty in the shape of Mike Freeman, my Girlfriend was killed by a hit and driver, I gave them a high res photo of the number plate but they couldn?t be bothered to investigate, they arrested my Nan for not paying her council-tax late while they let Poles and illegals go on a rampage, etc?
For every balanced well thought out post from people like Sam Slater on this subject you get 5 gems of wisdom like this:

There is no excuse for penning people in who want to leave a protest and to do so is just inviting trouble.

Re: G20 death a policemans view
The trouble is you can't define between those that just want to leave from those who say they just want to leave so that they can brake out from the area of control and cause problems in another area.
