HD content or not bothered?

Too late now as Ive been shooting HD content since last November and got nearly a years worth to go up already

BUT

I was speaking to another fellow producer who is still shooting standard dv and has no plans to change simply because...well not one customer has even asked for it. aint broke, why fix it?

Another producer who has gone the HD route has said his sales have not improved any because of it.

So I ask the consumers (presumably most of you who post on girly fan base forum) whether it makes one jot if the site you put money into is HD or not...Or is it just about the content?

Its always the content that interests me much more than the quality. But it is a plus point when im joining a site that if it has HD trailers and the content looks good then im more likely to join.

I would have thought most producers were also recording or had plans to record there footage in HD, at least in future that will allow them the option of delivering HD content, even if they dont do now. Where's the SD producers have no options. I remember when i joined the "uncovered" sites and redownloaded all my favourite scenes again, when they were on Killergram at a better resolution.

Also resolution isnt the only thing, good quality codecs/encoders/bitrates chosen and deinterlace methods are all just as important as resolution. The amount of times ive joined sites to see interlaced video encoded as progessive without being deinterlaced first is enough to piss me off (and ask for a refund)......or alot of big sites which still use the blend method of deinterlacing which looks absolutely horrible sometimes.

As long as it looks fine at full screen, i'm personally (as a punter as well) not bothered about whether my grot is HD.

If anything if the video is slightly raw it only adds to the nastiness. I am more your Razzle kind of man, as opposed to Private though when it comes to all round quality.

I would say good content and frequent updates are more important than HD providing the picture quality is of a reasonable standard, and as previously mentioned HD can take a lot longer to load which pisses a lot of people off !wink!

I wouldnt worry about download times as almost all the sites ive seen HD content on, allow you to download the SD versions as well. So at least its an option.

I use DVDs rather than subscription sites. OEJ's initial post starts by discussing HD porn generally, then finishes by questioning "sites" in particular, so please excuse me if my tuppence worth here is not particularly useful market research for you, OEJ.

Quality of content must exceed a consumer's minimum quality threshold. However, if faced with either (i) an excellent content film/scene on standard def versus (ii) just a "good" content film/scene on HD/blu ray, I would go for the blu-ray. (I do like higher production values, though, so HD would probably help rather than hinder the material I like; gonzo-style stuff may be quite the reverse, showing up "spotty arses" as mentioned in a post above).

I was in Soho a few months ago, and of all the licenced shops I found only one Blu-ray title there (in the Private shop). I thought I'd hit the jackpot with that find, but I didn't buy it because the content looked ropey. (They do have blu-rays at 2 unlicenced shops on Walkers Court, but they are either copies/dodgy looking or ?60 a pop...no thanks!).

PS - OEJ: in your advice to various newbie producers on here, you repeatedly mention offering something different as being a key means to success.....www.spotty-arses-in-HD.com may be worth a punt!

I'm really not bothered about HD at all. Can't see me going HD until the other stuff disappears, but I don't think that'll be anytime soon.
