The BBC have sent 400 people to cover fucking Glastonbury. They are like British Leyland, with the difference being that we had a choice whether or not to buy a Red Robbo built Allegro, but we've got to pay the TV tax if we want to watch TV legally.

People still go on about Marilyn Monroe too. Its just part of the celebrity obsessed phemomenon.
People still go on about Hitler and other figures of history, so MJ is still a part of music history as is Elvis etc.

As I said above, its the way they do it thats the problem. The BBC already have staff in the US to cover major stories. There is no need to send out a BBC news team to cover it, there are already people out there capable of doing the job. Then they will send out a radio team, again, not needed, already people there. Why did these people need to go first class? Isn't business class good enough?
They'll be nothing to cover when they actually get out there, they can buy in footage from the US companies if they want a shot of the mountain of flowers outside his home. Sending your own crew isn't going to get a better shot. If you want to conduct a vox pop, you can hire in a US freelancer to do the filming.
Its just an excuse for a jolly boys outing at the taxpayers expense, done using working practices not seen outside 1970's union rule.
