Plastic cigarette holders....

Post by max_tranmere »

There seems to be a trend for these now. A few people I know use them and I've seen other people outside pubs with them too. Basically it is a plastic see-through holder about one inch long, you put the ciggy in it and about half of the butt goes up inside it. After you've smoked a cigarette they is some black tar inside the thing - this would clearly have gone inside your lungs had you not used the holder. That is clearly a benefit, but how much of a benefit? Is this taking a lot of the tar, and other crap you would normally take down, into the holder, or just a small amount of it? I like a smoke when I have a beer, and I wonder how much benefit these things are. You can buy packs of them in the supermarket and each one lasts for about 5 fags. They are cheap to buy. Does anyone know much about these things?

My mother used those, must be 30 years ago. They came in a pack of 4, used one a week, which progressively removed more and more crap to wean you off.

Didn't work.

Doctor said most people just smoked more to get the hit they craved.

(Mum finally did it by 'cold turkey' about 6 years ago, after nearly 50 years smoking)
We have need of you again, great king.

Better to use e-cigs and ditch the tar etc. altogether.

So giving up would save your life, save the price of fags and save cost of holders...seems a no brainer to me but still the twats smoke...and smell..and get their mates to cover for them when they go out for another puff...and how many people have been killed in fires because someone's fag that caught the bedclothes alight?

I've smoked for 35 years and never as sio much as a smoulder-
I put the bloddy things out properly.
However, they're quite happily killing me in a host of other ways.

As I understand it, the theory is that there are two copies of a
particular gene- if you have the nasty copy, you get LC; if you
have the other you never get it, no matter how much you smoke.
In the latter case, of course, you merely die of bronchitis or any
of the other innumerable ailments which afflict smokers.

Either way; a death-sentence.
OTOH, it can be read as an expression of that indomitability of
the human spirit that represents the perverse ability of Man to act
against his own best interests : -))
