'Anglea Ashes' author Frank McCourt has died...

Post by max_tranmere »

I heard this this morning. Angela Ashes is one of the best books I've read and the film was very enjoyable and very eye-opening aswell. He apparently had a melonoma and died from it. He wrote 4 books I think and Angela's Ashes (commemerating his mother) was the most famous. It was about the hardship his family endured growing up in Ireland. He was born in America to Irish stock, they moved to Ireland, then later back to America. The book and film were controversial, and include the line: "one thing worse than the poverty stricken childhood is the Irish poverty stricken childhood. Worse still, the Irish Catholic childhood...'" He wrote about regular beatings from Priests, extreme poverty, and living in the cold and wet all the time. It's a shame he has passed. Did anyone on here read or watch the film 'Angelas Ashes' and what did you think?
