British porn history article
If you go to (did the link work??) & click "subjects", you can find a piece on British porn. I thought it was very interesting, but I am a furriner, & it may be old hat to natives & a big yawn. Check it out if interested tho.

Re: British porn history article
Are Pornstars Also Swingers. Such a good article title, I wonder if it's true. IMHO I have found that all the natural uninhibated girls that I have photographed (still & video), have been shall we say "enamoured" by sex.
Yes the Brit Porn is a good article, especially from mid-way down, and it shows that when porn becomes a business, rather than a seedy explotation carried out by gangsters, they (Sullivan et all) push the boundaries of what is accepted. After all, it is people like Sullivan who stand most to gain by the barriers being lowered.
I suppose our lack of freedom to publish and sell porn in the UK, has made us turn more to the Gonzo style, and can anyone put their hand on their heart and say that the mainstream of US porn is even slightly erotic; common love, too much (bad) acting.
So I suppose we are at the cross roads of UK porn. R18 has made it acceptable (nearly vicar) but as someone posted recently, what next for the genre in the UK.
For me, what showed me the way was the old Videx stuff. Now there's what you could do with a budge of ?25.10s and a super 8mm camera.

Re: British porn history article
People like David Waker(Father of owners of Your Choice) were amongst the forerunners of porn as we know it. Jay may not appreciate my saying this, but it is a fact of life.
Without pioneers like him, where would we be?
Some pioneers faded into oblivion, some, like Sullivan, found a way to exploit the market and it has to be said, fair do's, although I cannot personally stand the fat little fucker, he is after-all a multimillionare.
There was a guy, I forget his name now (blame it on J.Walker) who shot "naughty" stuff on 8mm, was chased out of our great democracy, went to Denmark and was responsible for the change in their law re porn etc. that is enjoyed to this day. He ended his days in Canada.
I have not read this History of Porn, but I doubt it is comprehensive or indeed accurate.

Re: British porn history article
Some of the story seems to have been lost in translation. I know the yanks think they speak english (no offence Mike your an exception). Still a very interesting read but the author(s) seem to get confused on quite a few issues such as the criminal history of London. And I was somewhat puzzzled by them using the term "double entrepreneur" when they meant to say "double entendre". Must be those American spell-checkers. We had one on our system at work which refused to allow me to spell in proper english eg colour (not color) neighbour (not neighbor). It went ape-shit if you tried to use a French word also in the English Dictionary such as en-route. Sorry rambling again.

Re: British porn history article
I would think that the stuff sans attribution was written by Luke himself (he did a whole book on the history of U.S. porn). But he is Australian & lived for a couple years in England when quite young. He moved to California at age 11 or so. So the Yanks seem exonerated from offenses against the Queen's own English, at least in this case.

Re: British porn history article
Hi Mike,
I apologise for blaming the yanks for Lukes poor english.
It seems most of his stuff is regurgitated from various press reports and books but he misunderstands or misinterprets a lot of it. And he even misprints a lot of quotes. No offence meant to the Yanks. They have enough problems what with an uneducated suicidal chimp for president!

Re: British porn history article
Isn't it a Luke Ford trademark to simply publish rumours of out and out shite? As I understand it, everyone hates him but because his site is so popular, they give him kudos for the sake of not being slandered too much. I wouldn't rely on his site for anything other then poor entertainment, done very badly. There are quite a few good books out there now with far more accurate accounts of Brit porn history, and they read much better too.

Re: British porn history article
This is pretty much correct. He loves digging into porn's underbelly, & feuding. It seems Luke doesn't much fancy porn;it is just a vehicle for his career. Odd guy, Luke.Still, there is some useful info on the site, as long as you take it w/ a grain of salt.
