Apparently Lord Mandelson (a man who was given the title of Lord in order to bypass the democratic system so he could be given a seat in government through the backdoor) was running the country, whilst on holiday in Europe, from his Blackberry. Gordon The Ego, another person in high office without the public ever being asked if they wanted him, is in his house in Fife, and is taking a break from things for the duration of the parliamentary recess. Interesting to think that a nation of 60m people was being run from a Blackberry by a man lying on a sunlounger somewhere in Europe. Although it is not nearly as concerning as when that semi-literate oaf John Prescott was put in charge of the nation...

Obviously everyone now uses modern communications to do their business, if they are absent and whether it is running a country or a business or whatever. Lying on a sunlounger on holiday doesn't suggest full committment though, sitting at the your desk fully committed suggests you are more focused on the job in hand.
