"The Scottish Government"

Post by max_tranmere »

This is such a political term, put forward by the SNP as part of their political agenda and for some reason the media - and even the American Government - have started running with it. Scotland has a devolved parliament while Wales has a bit less power devolved to it in the form of an assembly but ulmiately we are the United Kingdom and are run from London. In order to try and further fragment the nation in his quest to have Scotland as eventually a seperate country, Alex Salmond started using the term "The Scottish Government". I was amazed when he was able to get placards with this on put on Government buildings north of the border, when, like I said, this is not a factual statement but a political term. Today we even had Barack Obama use it with reference to his criticism of the early release of the Lockerbie bomber.

Did you know there is a small independence movement in Cornwall? Fact. Cornwall is the only English county bordered by only one other county and therefore could be seperated and have its own administration. There is even a Cornish language with is spoken by about 200 people. Perhaps the nationalists down there should stick "The Cornish Government" signs up on council buildings all over Cornwall. Do you think Westmister, and international bodies, would recognise it like that? I don't think so. That isn't exactly the same, but it is in the same area of thinking. Does anyone know why outside bodies - like the American government now - are even running with this highly political term "The Scottish Government"? Alex Salmond has really pulled off a koup here!

Who came up with the term "The Scottish Government", developed it, and made it into a prolific and well used term if is wasnt the SNP? They are the leading party in Scotland and run the devolved assembly. A term like that fits with what they want for Scotland. Who was it who decided to have the term "The Scottish Government" put on all Government buildings north of the border if it wasnt the SNP?

Max, you should see the film 'Passport To Pimlico'. You might find it amusing.

Have you noticed how the Scottish suddenly want to be 'British' now that they've f**ked up big time?

Keep the blame to yourselves, boys!
We have need of you again, great king.

Jonone, I've seen 'Passport To Pimlico'. There was something done like that for real in Notting Hill in west London in the 1970's - as a means of trying to stop several streets being demolished and lots of people from losing their homes. A small area of London declared independence. You can read about this online.

Scotland was happy to take a fortune from Westminster to bail out the Royal Bank Of Scotland. Scots don't mind moving to England in droves (5% of London is Scottish) and so on. Alex Salmond even used to refer to Scots living south of the border as "ex-patriots" ! How is it that they refer to their administration as the Scottish Government, implying in its name that it is a seperate country, yet they were refering to the BRITISH ambassador to Libya yesterday on the tv? Why don't they have a Scottish ambassador to Libya, and to everywhere else - if they have a 'Scottish Government'. A lot of people in America would have been confused yesterday with Obama talking about 'the Scottish Government', in the same way he would say 'the French Government'' or the Itialian Government'? As I said earlier I dont know how Salmond has got away with this and I am dumb-struck at how foreign governments now use the term.

The Scottish Government had a decision to make, whether it was right or wrong at least they made it. So in my opinion it has nothing to do with Westminster (though I suspect there was some collusion) and absolutely fuckall to do with America.
