Best thing he ever wrote was the following telegram-correspondence,
when he was sent to the ME as war-correspondent:

Editor - WHY UNNEWS?
Waugh - UNNEWS= GOODNEWS
Editor- UNNEWS= UNJOB
Waugh - UPSTICK JOB ASSWISE.

I've tried desperately to hate Greene for much the same reasons-
those, and his oft-professed Catholicism and sexual hypocrisy. But
I still love 'Brighton Rock'.
Go figure......
