I see your point and it's the same with porn. I am happy to pay for it because I want the girls and photographers to get their cut, but sometimes when you pay top $ for crap (for the 753 time) you dont feel so bad about downloading the odd free porn classic.

They do (or download illegally) if it's the Beatles, who are famously unavailable for commercial downloading from iTunes and elsewhere.

Some rate them a little higher than 'old rope'. George Martin himself, presumably.

About ?10 each for a superior product? I've no problem with that, and if you're happy with the old versions, then fine - no-one's forcing you to buy them are they?

As I understand it he owns the copyright to the SONGS not the recordings.

The Beatles never owned the copywright to the songs, it was I think Dick James music.

When Dick James decided to sell them Paul was keen to buy and went to Yoko (John was dead by then) and said would she join him in the bid and she said no.

So Michael Jackson was able to buy them unopposed by any of the members of the Beatles.

First preview listenings had listeners wondering what the scratching noises were, then it dawned on them, it was the sound of scraping the barrel.
How many more times will a re-issue be 're-issued'?
Chances are the next time this comes around is the 50th Anniversery of each original release.

Dick James, Charles Silver, John Lennon, Paul McCartney & Brian Epstein owned the publishing as set up as Northern Songs inc. Dick James decided to sell Northern Songs in 1969 & offered it to Lennon & McCartney. Lennon & McCartney were at this time fighting, due to the break up of the Beatles and litigation between Paul & the rest of The Beatles and Paul wanting to withdraw from Apple because of the band signing Allen Klein as their manager. The two couldn't come to an agreement, so James sold Northern Songs off to Lew Grade owner of ATV!

ATV put the songs up for sale in 1987 in which they were again offered to McCartney. McCartney not wanting to come up with the money himself asked Ono to come up with a half share and bid together! Ono thought the price was too high so declined & Jackson bought the copyright from ATV! Jackson had some really high debts and so sold a half share of the copyrights to Sony. So Sony/ATV now own the Copyrights to all Beatles songs with the exception of Love Me Do/P.S I Love You which are owned by Paul's MPL Communications and Please Please Me/Ask Me Why which are owned by Dick James Music & all of Harrisons songs which were recorded after 1967 are published by Harrisongs Ltd. & Ringo's 2 offerings Don't Pass Me By & Octopus's Garden which are copyrighted by Startling Music!
