We don't need to go into detail about the thing that has been all over the news today, that was going on in a certain place in Plymouth, and the three evil people involved. The 1 in 100 people who may not know about it it is dominating all the news programmes today so just watch Sky or BBC News on the turn of the next hour and you will see.
I post this because these three vile people met on Facebook, corresponded and exchanged things online, and never even met each other until they were in the dock in the Court today. A lot of the news coverage today has criticised the low scrutiny by the people running social network sites, and that is bound to make the people who run them tighten them up.
Us folks on here are only obviously interested in porn involving consenting adults, over the age of 18, passed by the BBFC, and which is bought legally in a shop or online. But if Cate Harrington can have her Facebook page pulled this week, then following all this carry-on in Plymouth I wouldn't be surprised if most adult pages and sites disappear from MySpace, Facebook, etc.
They will be really over-doing it with this, because the things I'm referring to involve consenting adults over the age of 18, who make legal films, earn legitimate money, pay tax, and so on, but because of what's being said today - and the inevitable discussions in all the newspapers tomorrow - a lot of adult orientated pages will, I think, disappear and be pulled from the net.
Do people think this will surely happen, and do you think it is an over-reaction?

I bet when Gutenburg invented the printing press one of the first books he produced was one showing naked ladies.

I very much doubt they did meet on Facebook to be honest. I mean, how did they come into contact with each other? Set up a group called "Paedos are ok" or something?
They probably met in a sex chatroom or something, and then added each other on Facebook afterwards. I think there's probably a lot more to this horrible case that we don't know and probably will never know. All I know is that it depresses the hell out of me.

You really think these sites are low scrutiny Max?
I know someone who moderates for sites like myspace. It seems they have a team on shiftwork all hours of the day digiging into peoples accounts or whateverthey do to delete images or accounts.
Cate has probbaly been a victim of someone who thinks she looks a bit too overtly sexy and if she is advertising a porn site then the conclusion is obvious...Press big red button to delete. Nothing personal!
Rumours are rife that social network sites are being policed by various giovernment agencies around the world including the media and probably why those three people were caught stupidly sharing something like this on Facebook (if thats what they were doing then they have to be dick heads of the highest order)
I dont doubt for a second I am being scrutinised by eyes who are looking for the first mention of illegal activity as no doubt some spiteful people have tried to push the report abuse button to no result as I dont contravene their rules.
Shame I didnt manage to do the same with my youtube account though eh?LOL

Did you see today the main woman's family have spoken to the News Of The World (presumably paid) and done a very Jerry Springer-esque interview where they talk about their disfunctional family, not in a matter-of-fact type way, but with a salacious I wanna-be-on-tv, very American, fame-and-infamy-are-the-same-thing sort of vibe. Rather like the family of that guy who pretended to have drowned off the coast up north somewhere who was jailed for insurance fraud earlier this year. He and his wife were sent down and told to repay the money too. Their kids not only made loads of money out of it by selling their stories but were photographed, for the stories, with the sea behind them! These things in the modern era are rarely about conveying news, as far as the relatives are concerned, its about getting on tv or in print, and making money.

Yes Max it is...But the media have figured people out which is why things are the way they are.
Come on you should ve figured it out by now with the Jade Goody phenomenon. We are living in a time when people have absolutely no shame when it comes to a: Making money b: Being on tv
Most people will forego a for b because being seen on tv makes you famous "innit?"

Its fine having a Face Book if you are a porn star as long as you don't advertise the fact, don't have any risky photo's, don't advertise links & don't mention you have anything to do with porn & then its like anyone elses account. People will know your face & if not you have not reached that porn star status yet to worry about it.
