I don't see porn any more a commodity than a meal at a restaurant, painting in a gallery or musical piece in an opera. As you say, a distributor is providing a service, but so is the videographer and performers; they're just servicing in a more indirect way compared to the prostitute.

A commodity has to be useful, and the base product of something more complex (though not always). I can't see what porn can make when added to something else, like, say, iron ore, maize or cotton.

Sure, but a product doesn't mean it's a commodity. A car is a product but not a commodity.

I couldn't stomach even half of Das Kapital but I think I'm on the right lines here.

Web-cam is popular at the moment whilst times are lean as some of my friends earn ?500-?1000 a week, because web-cam is easier e.g. posing in front of the camera talking dirty to guys & showing your tits compared to an hard core film shoot lots of models are going down this route instead.
When we have finished our studio June/July we will web-cam our film shoots on AdultWork, this way one carries the other as the models fees will be covered by the web-cam earnings.
Porn is always going to be here but it is changing style at a fast rate because of the internet, people will always need food, drink & sex so porn is a commodity whatever form its presented in.

People 'need' porn? Wanting and needing are two different things.

Ok, the word commodity covers many things but in the strictest sense it usually refers to something basic; a staple product that is in constant need, like wheat, rice, copper, etc. Porn isn't a commodity in that sense, for if it is then just about everything we purchase in the world would be classed as a commodity. Common parlance refers to my socks as a product and that the cotton they're made from is the commodity. For instance, it would be ridiculous to label a microwave chicken tagliatelle a 'commodity'; the wheat and eggs that make up the pasta are commodities, as is the chicken meat but not the final product.

You mention webcams. I think that this side of porn is even more a service than conventional porn. If the girl at the other end of the line isn't providing a service I don't know who is.

While sex may be essential (not to the individual, but for the whole), I think porn is a luxury. You can't compare it to a staple food keeping millions alive, like rice, nor a basic, essential element of today's society, like iron ore. That's just silly.

Studios are doing it Graham. I have thought about it but getting al techy on couples (especially non porno ones) would ruin that spontaneity I like on my shoots and worse still cause the bloke to freze up and not perform.

I try to kep things as simple as possible....Getting people to perform for a1 pm show is not feasible when we might be still sitting around sipping tea and talking. In that respect its not do able for me. My shoots are far too casual to be run on a dedicated time slot expecting people to perform on time for a complete show. Besides, thats what the updates are for

but as a behind the scenes option, yes of course. This is nothing new either.

According to the Dictionary: Commodity is an article of trade: therefore if you are selling porn it is a commodity, anyway this post is not about that it was meant to be about the present state of the porn industry, and i still think that live hardcore performances are the way forward, i accept that models both m/f wont all be happy performing live as when things go wrong especially the guys if they cant get it up, but i believe that the porn buying custormers would love to see this, call it Reality Porn if you like, but as previously stated this could be incorporated into most porn sites as a bonus to the members and i feel sure it would increase sign ups, i am not knocking the way porn sites are being run at this present time as i know just how tough it is out there at the moment i am merely just making a suggestion as to a way that owners of such sites could increase their revenue. !cigar!

Porn has been commoditised for some years. The money is made in distribution-often Internet based-of material shot in what has been,a cottage industry.I got out of porn production years ago,and stick to the internet plumbing stuff.I do make the odd film these days, with a scratch crew, and overseas models, but probably not more than one a year.I can then put it on my own servers, and sell it as a download, without involving any third party leeches.
