Might also be worth considering an Imac since you get the whole lot built into the monitor itself. I had one of these and it was fine. I only changed because I had to edit abroad.

BTW I use Final Cut Pro 6 in Studio 2 to edit in case you're wondering.

Kim has just got me a new laptop with Windows 7 which is ten times better than Vista, it has backwards capability so it plays any XP Prog.
I use Sony Vegas 8 & Pinnacle 12 & the new 7 system breezes through these, just don't update it at the moment as i keep losing my media player 12 video & i mucks up my Skype web-cam. lol!

The point I was making was that it is PUT TOGETHER by Apple, and tested by them that it all works together.

When I build a PC I can buy half a dozen different parts from half a dozen different companies and have to HOPE it works.

With Apple you have the knowledge they have done a lot of work to ensure that the limited components they choose have all been tested so they work with each other, and with the Apple OS.

A Mac if you have money to throwaway

Windows if your cash strapped

Everything I've ever read tells me your better off either building your own or getting someone reputable to build you one from scratch than buying off the shelf


1.work out everything your going to be using it for

2.match that to the hardware/software required

3.LEAVE IT LIKE THAT - dont start adding on Software which you think will improve it...only causes extra stress on your PC and the likelyhood of conflicts causing issues increases

I use the same software on both and apart from a somewhat quicker boot on Mac I'd be hard pushed to tell the difference with regards to performance. Rewind a few years and it would have certainly had to have been a Mac, but PCs seem to have caught up.

Bear in mind that it's also been a few years since Apple were considered 'cool'. These days they're just another middle class, high street label, thanks to the ubiquity of the iPod and their various other tricksy little gadgets.
