I use Macs now (20" iMac at home for editing photos and 12" MacBook for when I'm on the road) though I did use PCs.
I'm not a gamer so I couldn't care less that I can't play this, that or the other on a Mac
For downloading, converting from RAW, tweaking and cataloging photos I use Aperture 2 which is only available for Macs so my decision to move away from buggy Windows PCs was an easy one to make. As for the rest, Dreamweaver works on both, Firefox and Thunderbird work on both, and OpenOffice is a free equivalent to Microsoft's bloated and buggy offering.
I find Macs far more intuitive, and when I switch on I can start working within 15 seconds... I don't need to wait half an hour while various things in Windows load up !sad! I don't get attacked by malware, viruses etc. Mac's LOOK good!!! They're stylish, unlike most PCs.
NOTHING on this world would ever get me to go back to Windows PCs... I have seen the light !happy!

Think you'll find reggie most computer problems, not withstanding the occasional malfunctioning part straight out of the box, can be traced back to the person on the keyboard
Downloading 3rd party software that most dont have any idea what it really will do all in the name of increased performance
I give you registry cleaners & tune-up software
In the hands of the beginner these are as good as infesting your computer with a virus/malware
I've had 2 computers and only 1 part has ever malfunctioned in 9 years of use,
and that was the first monitor
The maleable software on a hard drive can deteriorate even when the computer is not powered up and in use.
| wouldn't call it deterioration. It's really the environment the software is stored on that changes which may cause it to not work as intended. So, for example, a machine stored in a damp environment may affect the hard disk platters which may corrupt the code, or the heads may be unable to read certain parts of the disk where the code was stored. If the environment is completely unchanged then the binary code wouldn't deteriorate for decades (depending on the medium used for storage).
You're very fond of calling people 'stupid' when you have no idea of what's being discussed, maybe you're blinded by your own ignorance...?
I challenge you to show where I called you 'stupid'. To the contrary, Keith, it is you who seems to enjoy doing just that. Not only do you not understand how adding a zero to anything can alter a numbering system, and not only do you seem unable to grasp metaphor but now you cannot comprehend 'meaning' in a simple sentence. I accused you of saying something stupid, not being stupid.
It looks like you'll be enrolling for gcse English as well as Maths next year, Keith. L o L

One last bit of advice, if possible buy your computer whatever make it happens to be, from John Lewis. Because if for some reason there is a problem they will simply replace it rather than put you through the Spanish Inquisition and use every trick in the book to suggest whatever is wrong is YOUR FAULT! Avoid your local geek run computer store at all costs as they will always blame you, never themselves or their item and buy on-line at your peril, I know you get bargains, but God help you if you get a problem, there are some great suppliers out there, but if you get a baddun you've had it.
Any major store, Tesco's, Curry's and so on will tend to just give you your money back if there is a problem, they've got better things to do.
A hard disk is actually vacuum sealed, there is no air or moisture inside,
Not exactly true, Keith. It's the use of air that helps stop the read heads from crashing into the spinning platters. A total vacuum would lead to a less stable hard disk. The units are sealed to keep out moisture and dust, etc.
I have no issues with most of what you now say because you're talking about media and how a deterioration of 'media' will affect the software code. You're now agreeing with my original points and making it look as though I'm the one who's muddled up! Strange tactics, but please try again!
A magnetised 'bit' just represents, depending on it's state, a 0 or 1 and is a physical object. Unread it is not software but hardware. These 'bits' can and do deteriorate or lose magnetism which, when read, alters the code within the software. I'm sorry to have to repeat myself but software does not deteriorate.
Let's look at your silly comment again: "For no particular reason, this can knacker the operating system."
For no particular reason, eh? Really, Keith, you are funny. Even if you could show me how 'software' can deteriorate (you can't), doing so would contradict you're 'no particular reason' statement, wouldn't it? Again, you're comment was stupid; it was drivel.
Oh, and you ignored my challenge of finding the bit where I called you stupid. From someone who's studied psychology I'd have expected pride not being an issue with you and a quick and full apology would be forthcoming for the false accusation. Me? If I accused you of something in error I'd apologise immediately and unreservedly. Mind you, you've not said sorry for calling me a backstabber yet.....lol. What was that all about you mad monk?

I've never understood why John Lewis is always full of "Toffs", their prices are the same as anywhere else, they give better service and on TV's they give an automatic 5 year guarantee, ie they don't try to cheat you into an "Extended warranty" the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Anything that can break down I buy from them.
I think on the other end of the scale is PC World, bunch of money-grabbing sheisters aren't they owned by Alan Sugar? Run by 18 year olds in crap suits with the old, "'Ello my name is Gavin, 'ow can I 'elp ya mate" and silently to himself, "Stupid old cunt, I'll try to flog 'im something he don't need, old bastards like 'im know nuffink about tecknology, I can get me figures right up this month , he,he,he!"
